About Raising the Shire
The name of this site was chosen as a tribute to Merry and Pippin having to “raise the Shire” upon their return home in The Return of the King, Bk 6, Ch 8 entitled The Scouring Of The Shire.
“‘Raise the Shire!’, said Merry. ‘Now! Wake all our people! They hate all this, you can see: all of them except perhaps one or two rascals, and a few fools that want to be important, but don’t at all understand what is really going on. But Shire-folk have been so comfortable so long they don’t know what to do. They just want a match, though, and they’ll go up in fire. The Chief’s Men must know that. They’ll try to stamp on us and put us out quick. We’ve only got a very short time.’”
Hobbits, in fact, are quite remarkable, aren’t they?
Tearose Underhill was the mistress here at RaisingtheShire.com. She was a rather brave hunter playing on Gladden server in LOTRO. Tearose was related to one of those “Archet Underhills” whom Frodo and his friends encounter in the Prancing Pony in the Fellowship of the Ring.
She was seriously injured in battle and though carefully tended by the Elves in Rivendell, under the watchful eye of Elrond, she passed quietly in her sleep in the early morning hours on the first Tuesday of January.
She will be missed terribly by all her family, friends, and companions. A hobbit will continue to write the stories on her behalf and the adventures will continue.
