Caliniel of Mirkwood felt awkward in the massive passages of Thorin’s Hall. The dwarves seemed suspicious of Caliniel’s intentions there, even though she had come to help a dwarf in need. Long has there been dissent between Caliniel’s elven kin and the dwarves of the Blue Mountains.
“I must not let the past dictate my present situation”, thought Caliniel. She consulted her runes, and nodded her head. “Yes, now is not the time for anger amongst the Free Peoples of Middle Earth, for a menace much greater than greedy dwarves is upon us and we must stand together – man, dwarf, and elf – to defeat it.”
Caliniel relaxed as her thoughts became calm and less critical of the inhabitants of Thorin’s Hall. For she knew that they were all in grave danger, and that the enemy was all around them: goblins in Ered Luin along with many creatures of the wild that had become diseased and very aggressive.
And news from her home in Mirkwood was grim indeed. For most of Caliniel’s family and friends were battling far worse in Mirkwood. Dol Guldur was occupied by powerful minions of Sauron – orcs, trolls, and Nazgûl.
Caliniel shivered. She felt cold as ice as she thought of what would happen if her people were captured alive by any of the evil leaders who took over the Tower of the Necromancer. The fleeting thoughts of home made Caliniel feel homesick, but at the same time, she knew that she was in less danger at the moment than many others. The shadows of Thorin’s Hall began to give her a sense of uneasy comfort. She was safe for now.

Pareth and her companion Celadyn were asked to assist the Golden Host as they battled throughout the Tower of Dol Guldur. They fought valiantly and secured the Entrance Hall, the Audience Chamber, the Lower Mustering Hall, and the Upper Mustering Hall.
Finally in the Armoury, Mazog, the evil general of the enemy, openly mocked them. And Broin, the dwarf who sought to retrieve Zigilburk, fought beside Pareth, fearlessly. The battle was over quickly and Mazog fell at the hands of Broin.
Pareth and Celadyn were curious about the mithril axe that was so prized by the dwarves and Broin was proud to show them the special weapon. “Come, friends, for it is done. Mazog has been defeated and Zigilburk is returned. Let us leave this foul place.” Broin said.
But Pareth was not quite finished with the enemies who lurked in that tower. For the elves had told her about evil minions who lurked in the dark recesses of the tower and who attacked them from behind. When it was all over, Pareth had slain several more of the enemy in the encounters throughout the halls of the tower.
The elves were grateful for Pareth’s assistance and they thanked her and invited her to share a meal and rest with them. Pareth accepted their kind offer for she was weary and within minutes of finishing her food, she fell into a deep dreamless sleep.

Pareth received an urgent message from two dwarfs she had befriended on previous missions to eliminate the enemy. Taad, a hardy champion, and Jorgin, a skilled rune-keeper, both wrote Pareth, requesting that she meet them in Eregion outside of Mirobel.
Their intention was to defeat the Commander of the White Hand Uruks, Tarsh, who led the invaders who had taken over the School of Tham Mirdain.
Tarsh was a huge brute who almost got the best of Pareth, and had it not been for her dwarf companions, she would have been felled by Saruman’s evil commander.
“Pareth!” yelled Jorgin. “Back up! You are hurt! Let Taad finish him!” And Pareth instinctively knew the dwarf was right, and she backed up and was able to drink a strong healing draught that sustained her until the evil commander was defeated.
Taad and Jorgin rushed to Pareth’s side as she clutched her arm in obvious pain. “It’s all right, my friends, it’s just a scratch!” Pareth tried to reassure her companions, but they knew she was badly hurt. So they got her out of the crumbling school and to the camp nearby where Elven healers tended to her.
Pareth healed quickly and she earned the respect of the two dwarves that day. She was a woman indeed, but she was a warrior of Gondor, and she would go on to fight many more battles before her time was done.
