Escaping the Mazes of Minas Elendur

Posted By on January 30, 2011

Pareth of Gondor travelled to Eregion to learn about the ruins of Minas Elendur. She was warned that it was a place that was taken over by minions of the traitor Saruman, a particularily nasty faction of Uruks, called Ninkoth.

So Pareth entered the ruins armed and ready to slay any enemies that she encountered. And there were many! Around every corner, and down all the corridors, there were the Ninkoths. They were fierce and they attacked Pareth, mocking her as they tried to kill her. But Pareth fought hard and tried to find her way around the maze of corridors. But it didn’t take too long for her to get hopefully lost. She realized that she was going around in circles, so after battling many Ninkoth, and trying to get out of the dark halls of the ruins, she was exhausted.

She found a quiet corner in one of the hallways, and rested. She ate some rations quickly, for she soon had to defend herself again when a Ninkoth Berserker discovered her. She slew him swiftly, for her skills with the bow were legendary.

She finally found the exit and vowed to return another time with a group of warriors who already had been through Minas Elendur and the cellars of Delotham. Pareth knew her limitations and though she was very capable of holding her own against enemies, there were times when she appreciated the company of kinfolk, for many of them had more experience than she did, and she learned much from them.

She slew more than three dozen Ninkoth that day in Minas Elendur, so she was very weary and injured when she returned to Echad Eregion. She rested there for several days before she could travel again. When she was fully healed, she spent some time gathering resources in Eregion before her journey back to Mirkwood, for she received an urgent message that her services were needed in Dol Guldur yet again.

“Alas for those brave Malledhrim, whose very lives are threatened daily by Sauron’s minions in that awful place!” thought Pareth. She raised her sword in a silent tribute, for she had fought beside the brave Elves on many occasions and she was honoured to be sought out again.

“Let every manner of evil minion of Sauron in Dol Guldur beware! For there will come a time when the very walls of their fortress will come tumbling down and the Elves of Lothlorien will have their revenge. Remember these words, brave warriors of Middle Earth, for we will prevail against evil. I know it in my heart!” cried Pareth as she directed her horse swiftly towards Mirkwood. And the forests listened in silence to the echoes of her battle cries while crebain circled overhead.

“We will prevail!”

A Voluntary Detour From the Grey Havens

Rinnien of Rivendell should have boarded the ship in the Grey Havens with her kin and a company of elves who were all leaving Middle Earth before the Dark Lord Sauron covered the world in darkness.

It would have been so easy for her to leave with her friends and family and not have another care in the world. But something was nagging Rinnien and at the last minute she fled from the shores of the Grey Havens and travelled to Celondim to seek refuge and spend time thinking about why she changed her mind.

Several days and nights passed and still Rinnien had no answers. So she offered to help the elves in Celondim and she made some new friends. These new friends warned her to be vigilant while travelling the countryside of Ered Luin, for the animals were wild and unpredictable and were known to attack travellers, and news of goblins setting up camps in Rath Teraig and Limael’s Vinyard made everyone very nervous.

Cardavor was one of the leaders in Celondim who dispatched warriors to the various areas to slay the goblins, for he believed they slew his son Avorthal. Rinnien volunteered to accompany them for she was a loremaster with some skill and could control crowds and deal quite a bit of damage using elemental forces.

She was trained by Elrond of Rivendell and though she had much more to learn, she had become quite powerful. The elves in Ered Luin soon heard about her brave deeds and they showed their appreciation by inviting her to feast with them and they gave her beautiful gifts.

It was during one such feast that the answer came to Rinnien. She had abandoned her journey to Valinor for she felt that she was still needed in Middle Earth. She wasn’t ready to retire yet, though there were times later on that she would regret her decision briefly. In the meantime, there was work to be done, and Rinnien was ready to do her part.

Council in the Flets of Lothlorien

The Galadhrim of Lothlorien held council with the Malledhrim and the Elves of Rivendell. Their council lasted many hours and the purpose of it was to choose which of the brave warriors, who chose to assist the elves in their mission to erradicate the evil from Middle Earth, would be given the honoury title of Ambassador to the Elves. All who were honoured, and there were many, were also awarded a gift of a prized steed.

Pareth of Gondor and several of her companions had earned the honour of all the Elves of Middle Earth and they were treated with the utmost respect. Indeed, many of the Elves were preparing to leave and sail into the West, but still quite a few had chosen to remain behind and assist the Free Peoples of Middle Earth, for Sauron’s armies had grown and soon all the world would be in darkness, if they didn’t all band together for the common good of all.

After the council, there was one day of feasting and after that preparations were made to attack the enemies who had invaded Mirkwood again. For although many battles had been waged there already, Sauron’s evil Nazgul dispatched more armies of orcs to the areas in and around Dol Guldur.

The evil leaders in Dol Guldur would soon be defeated by the Elves and all those who chose to assist them. That was the plan though it took longer then they had hoped and at a very steep cost, for many brave souls lost their lives in Mirkwood that year. Lothlorien was protected, as was Rivendell, though many elves would never return to either haven. War had made all the remaining elves very sad but it did not diminish their strength or their resolve. They would preservere to the end.
